The sport and martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on fighting on the ground and on holds and grapples. Its path over the past eight decades has been curious indeed.fedor vs. arlovski Mixed martial artists using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu have been very successful, so now almost all UFC and MMA fighters use it.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has a very long history, it goes back through the Gracie family to their original teacher, Mitsuyo Maeda and his training in the Kodokan

Kodokan Judo which originated in Japan, reigned supreme for many years, this judo techniques were composed of stand up throwing methods. A man named Mataemon Tanabe challenged the Kodokan around the Nineteenth Century. He was the leader and master of the beginning Jiu Jitsu, called Fusen Ryu. Fusen ryu fighters were expert in fighting on ground, which the Kodokan lacked. The Kodokan-Fusen Ryu matches highlighted the importance of ground fighting techniques in a dramatic fashion. Tanabe taught ground grappling based on Jigoro Kano’s invitation. Ground grappling techniques were popularized at the Kodokan, making them a favorite among the fighters.

Right around that time Mitsuyo Maeda began judo training and discovered that he was a martial arts prodigy. Maedo was a member of the Kodokan school of Judo. Kano selected several students, including Maeda, to spread his art overseas. Maeda went to USAS.A. in 1904 to spread the message of Kodokan Judo. He traveled the world. He fought different matches with many wrestlers, boxers, savate fighters and various other martial artists. Maeda arrived in Brazil in the winter of 1914. Maeda had fought over 1000 fights without losing to anyone.

Sports World Of Mixed Martial Arts, College Pro Football & The Perfect Golf Swing

March 15, 2009 · Filed Under Recreation and Sports · Comment

Mixed martial arts is growing in popularity ever since rules were implemented for the safety of those in the ring and you can now watch it on television. It captures an audience both young and old since what happens either in the cage or ring is not scripted unlike wrestling. There are two main styles of mixed martial arts. These are sport and street. In sport, two unarmed competitors fight it out using the same or different mixed martial arts lessons discipline. Here, you can’t bite, insert fingers to any bodily crevices, attack the groin and eye gouging. In street, you are allowed to use a weapon of your choice but the first is more popular that the other. Aside from its popularity on television, there is an increase in the sale of mixed martial arts merchandise especially in the form of videos which fans can take home. There are also websites which feature upcoming competitions, blogs, forums and everything else related to this sport.

Some fans who have become engrossed in this sport have signed up in gyms that offer this in their classes. This can be done just to work up a sweat instead of lifting weights or running on the treadmill. Those who are serious train hard so they will be able to join a competition and win.

Many people find mixed martial arts too aggressive and prefer to spend their time involved in pro football talk and when watching the television – the preference of those people is definitely to watch the ever popular pro football reference games. There is a great deal of skill that is involved in American football and those who get a head start by playing early when in their college and university days definitely will have the advantage later on in life.

Like American football - the popularity of golf has increased tremendously over the past forty five years with thousands of people looking to improve their improving golf swing, giving us champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods, and world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral. Why has golf become so popular? It’s the opportunity to be outside, to get a good whole body workout, network with friends or business colleagues at a leisurely pace, and to play a game that you can never perfect. Your scorecard, over time, shows your improvement, which keeps you playing again and again.

Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who has no clue about the game. Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course; each hole has its “par”, which is the number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you approach the green), and putts.

At what age can I start my child on learning martial arts?

February 28, 2009 · Filed Under First Person Shooters · 30 Comments
teresalsmith72 asked:

What is the best one to start with? Judo, Kick Boxing, Karate or another? I want my child to be able to defend herself in a street fight in case she is attacked. Just knowing one kind of traditional martial art is not effective enough during a street fight since anything goes when one is attacked. So I want my child to be able to successfully defend herself and put the attacker in the hospital for a LONG time. At what age and with what martial art form should she start? I heard the Judo is great to start with, then kick boxing and then later on Jiujutsu. I do appreciate the Traditional martial arts, but form my experience during hand to hand combat anything goes and it is best to know how to respond to various forms of fighting styles.

What type of martial arts should I learn?

jerseygurl422 asked:

I am a 17 year old female and I’m going off to college next year. I want to take a martial arts class that teaches me self defense and is a good workout at the same time. I was told not to take Jujitsu because that is a type of martial arts that deals with overpowering an opponent and because I am only 54′ I will not be able to overpower an opponent. Is this true and what type of martial arts would be best for me? Thanks!

I’m looking to take up the martial arts but I’m not sure which I would like best.

Also, if anyone knows of an online directory of martial arts schools where I can find what is close to me, it would be helpful to post the web address.

Thanks.

What type of Martial arts should I start taking classes in?

floridaflammemarijuana asked:

I prefer a type that is STRICTLY self-defense. I have taken classes in TaiChi before, but I would like to practice something that is a little more physically energetic so to speak. However, I have heard that TaiChi is the Grandmaster of Martial Arts. Is this true? I am looking for something that has a philisophy as well as a physical discipline. I do find Aikido very interesting. I guess what I would be looking for would be a soft style?
